What if a new version of Windows didn’t try to dazzle you? What if, instead, it tried to disappear except when you needed it? Such an operating system would dispense with glitzy effects in favour of low-key, useful new features. Rather than pelting you with alerts, warnings, and requests, it would try to stay out of your face. And if any bundled applications weren’t essential, it would dump ‘em.
It’s not a what-if scenario. Windows 7, is set to arrive on new PCs and as a shrinkwrapped upgrade on October 22, it has a minimalist feel and attempts to fix the bad tate that vista left in so many mouths. In contrast, Windows Vista offered a flashy new interface, but its poor performance, compatibility gotchas, and lack of compelling features made some folks regret upgrading and others refuse to leave Windows XP.
For the last 6 months the team at la-rg-e have been testing the final relase version of Windows 7 and we are happy to give it our seal of approval. The final shipping version that goes on sale at the end of October is the worthy successor to Windows XP that Vista never was

So the good news is that Microsoft have now released a free virus solution, yea you read that right free.. as in chips… I know it took a while for that to sink in for me as well.. We have been running it in the office for the last few days as i can recommend it 100%. below is the official guff from the site:
Microsoft Security Essentials provides real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.
Microsoft Security Essentials is a free* download from Microsoft that is simple to install, easy to use, and always kept up to date so you can be assured your PC is protected by the latest technology. It’s easy to tell if your PC is secure — when you’re green, you’re good. It’s that simple.
Microsoft Security Essentials runs quietly and efficiently in the background so that you are free to use your Windows-based PC the way you want—without interruptions or long computer wait times.

So you are browsing on your mobile phone and you see something interesting that you know will come in handy later what do you do? wouldn’t it be good to say select the url/ page / file / image / etc. and simple store it in a location that your computer can access? in fact why not have it accessible to any web based device including your blackberry or iphone. Step up to the plate Mr evernote its your time in the sun.
From the website:
Evernote makes it easy to remember things big and small from your notable life using your computer, phone, and the web. You can get going today with a free account .Chances are, if you can see it or think of it, Evernote can help you remember it. Type a text note. Clip a web page. Snap a photo. Grab a screen shot. Evernote will keep it all safe. Everything you capture is automatically processed, indexed, and made searchable. If you like, you can add tags or organize notes into different notebooks.
Find anything fast.Search for notes by keywords, titles, and tags. Evernote magically makes printed and handwritten text inside your images searchable, too.
Evernote is like the Microsoft application Onenote but on steroids, the benefit is that Onenote required a share point server to share your note book successfully but you can still be in the tricky situation of multiple changes overwriting them selves…
I recommend Giving it a try, the free account will get you hooked and at $45 per year the unlimited premium account is practically free..

Intel surprised no one with the expected announcement of the Mobile Core i7 processor line. The Core i7 is the next generation of processor that should be available soon to OEMs wishing to up their game with PCs so equipped. The Core i7 brings quad core goodness to notebooks, and there will be two versions, a Mobile Processor and a Mobile Processor Extreme. The Extreme version supports over-clocking of the processor.
Laptop Magazine has benchmarked a notebook running the Core i7 and they were impressed.
Like its predecessor, our Core i7 notebook (provided by Intel, made by Clevo) shredded through every benchmark record any notebook in our labs has ever held. The system chewed through PCMark Vantage, burned up 3DMark06, and then showed NVIDIA’s CUDA that it knew a thing or two about encoding video. But before we get ahead of ourselves, here’s a quick background on Core i7.
I had the opportunity to play with a prototype notebook running a Core i7 a few weeks ago and it blew me away how fast it was. Everything happened quickly and the engineers who showed it to me (who can’t be named) said their testing proves how well the Core i7 can step the performance up or down based on whether it’s powered by battery or A/C at any given time.

So if you are in the market for a netbook at last your prayes have been answered ..
I expect my netbook to give me a days battery on one charge and have a large enough keyboard to let me buy tickets for my favourite band without having to hen peck at the tiny keys. While I am aware of the limitations of these devices if you keep in mind what they were created for [hint is in the name "netbook"] then samsung have hit the ground running.
Say hello to the Samsung’s N110 netbook, on the whole the stats do not differ from the rest in this class that is until you look at battery life. On light use this little baby has a gargantuan 11hrs 8mins before you have to pack up and find a charge point and with the 97% keyboard will let even the large finguered amounst us type away in peace..
Verdict
Superb build quality, battery life and usability – quite simply the best netbook around.
Price when reviewed: £304 (£350 inc VAT)

Kamil over at XDA-Developers has created a simple but feature-complete Sudoku game for your Windows Mobile smartphone. The application, Sudoku Mobile, makes good use of today’s high resolution screens, has different difficulty levels and allows saving and loading of game state.
Eventually the developer hopes to implement downloading games directly from the internet.
The software is of course freeware, so there is no excuse not to try it out, but of course the author would appreciate donations.
Download the latest cab from this XDA-Developer thread here or get to the thread easily by typing this tinyurl in your mobile browser:
